ACTS Alderley serves as auspices for Hughie.org.au, a family based project which is raising awareness and funding for Alpers Syndrome research. At five years old, a very much loved Hugh finished his battle with Alpers Syndrome prior to Christmas 2015. The sadness of losing Hughie has been immense for the family, yet consoled by the support of so many and the beautiful legacy he leaves. Hugh is now free in the safe arms of God.
Hugh’s parents and family have seen many wonderful signs of hope in a most difficult and journey to find solutions for the condition of their son but with his passing desire to see the story of Hughie bring hope to other children and families.
From initial fundraising in 2014 a generous donation was made to the Department of Neurogenetics at the Knolling Institute of Medical Research in Sydney for Alpers Syndrome research. Cumulative donations have favourably advanced breakthrough on the pathway to medical solutions for this little researched and desperate condition.
