ACTS Caboolture
Our Caboolture chapter (supported by Destiny Christian Church) north of Brisbane supports life skill training, Helping Hands program, school chaplaincies, family support and youth services and post release support for prisoners and their families.
Their connection with disadvantaged young people and families made them aware of the need for basic life skills – respect for yourself and others, how to relate to people without conflict, managing money, developing goals, and so on.
Helping Hands is a great craft group that goes beyond clag clue and popsicle sticks. Its about making useful things, learning to be creative with a sewing machine, and all the while building reliable friendships that make life that much better.
Families that have a family member in a correctional facility face a special range of issues – reduced income, single parenting, often moving house and school which means losing touch with family and friends. Kids and teenagers don’t do well when their lives are disrupted in this way and Acts Caboolture has started a youth group with them in mind.
And then there’s the post release period for the person who has completed their sentence and their families.
